Hungry For LoveNo one liked her. She was bad news. Never did anything right. A perpetual problem. Even the compassionate director of the orphanage where she lived was at the end of her rope. Convinced that the child should be in a mental institution rather than an orphanage, the director was looking for a solid reason to dismiss her. One day another resident told the director the girl had scrawled something on scraps of paper and tied them to the limbs of a tree in the yard. The director pulled one of the notes in the yard. And read it. . . “Whoever finds this - - I Love You!” the note read. The child had a craving for compassion and understanding. A longing for love. She did strange and irritating things to gain attention. Psychologists say an infant must be treated with warmth and tenderness. If that treatment isn’t received the child may become a serious problem. We all need love. Most of us receive an abundance of it from family and friends. We don’t know what it is to be without it. But all around us are people who have never been treated with genuine love and concern. They’re slowly starving to death. God wants to dispatch His love to them – through us. Today, as God’s representative, will you look for an opportunity to speak a word of kindness, show interest in someone who is lonely, extend help to someone in need? It won’t come naturally. You’ll have to make an honest effort to find a need in someone’s life and fill it. Will you do it?“... love one another...” (John 13;34) __Joe R. Barnett
