THE DAY THE SUN STOOD STILL A large cloud of dust hung over the horizon; the sounds of clashing armies and men dying could be heard for miles. Storm clouds blanketed the battlefield injecting large hailstones in to the Frey destroying more of the enemy than were killed by the sword. So great was the battle that the commander prayed that that the sun might stop till the nation avenging itself on the enemy. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. …. Do you believe this story? It is told in the book of Joshua. If we do not believe the story, or we say it didn’t happen or that God could not have caused this event to happen, then how can we be sure that Christ was raised from the dead, or that our sins were forgiven when we were baptized or that there is life after death? I choose to believe these events happened and that the Bible is God’s plan for man and his ways should become our ways. God in his infinite wisdom has given us guidance to live by and a path to follow that will help us not only to have a personal relationship with him here on earth, an eternal life with him in heaven but also help in our relationships with each other as family members and Christians. One of the ways God has chosen for us to help each other is for the older women to teach the younger women. I wonder why God would have chosen such a concept? Could it be that these ladies have traveled down life’s path a little longer and have had experiences both good and bad that help them each to draw closer to God each day. I wonder if it is because they have had more time to spend in God’s word and in prayer allowing God to impact their lives. I wonder if it is because of their successes or failures in raising children, crying when they made wrong choices and rejoicing when they made right choices. Yes, I think this is no less a command than repenting or confessing or walking in God’s ways. But wait! Think of the responsibility this puts on the older women. You must be the older woman God wants you to be so you may have the right to teach the younger women God’s ways. Young men you have not been let off the hook, nor have the older men. The same things apply to the male species also. I say these things not because I have become a member of the “senior citizen” group but because I believe in God, his word and his ways are perfect and for us to follow them is our duty. Do you believe the sun stood still? Do you believe the older should teach the younger? Do you believe Christ lived and died for your sins? Do you believe the Bible is God’s word? Do you believe that the Holy Spirit lives in you? If you cannot answer, “yes” to all these questions, we have failed in our teachings, we must close the book and we of all men are most miserable.
