TODAY L.T.C. A mandatory quick meeting of parents and participants of L.T.C. will take place this morning immediately following services in the front of the auditorium. ALL L.T.C. PARTICIPANTS must be here tonight to practice. This is very important since it will be our last practice before L.T.C. Pizza will be provided. UPCOMING Faith Partners Faith Partners consists of building a team ministry in a church - a small group of trained lay people who provide alcohol, tobacco and drug abuse prevention for youth and adults connected to the congregation. Partners is about providing education and support to people in need and connecting them with agencies in the community that can provide further help. People in the faith community are part of this big wheel of prevention and recovery. Studies have shown that faith is a protective factor for youth - those who go to church are less likely to engage in risky behaviors. Faith Partners is a powerful way to address the problem of substance abuse and reduce its stigma. Pray for this team ministry coming soon. And be ready to help. Please fill out a Congregational Survey (on the foyer table). Leave it on the office desk. |

Basin Theology In church settings we talk a lot about "do unto others," the need to be involved, and the call to be a servant. Basically, it comes down to basin theology. Remember what Pilate did when he had the chance to acquit Jesus? Standing before the angry crowd, he took water, customarily brought to him in a basin. He washed his own hands in front of the crowd. "I am innocent of this man's blood. It is your responsibility" (Matthew 27:24). He got out of the whole thing. Remember what Jesus did, knowing that His time had come to leave this world? During the Passover meal with His disciples, He got up, took off his outer clothing and wrapped a towel around His waist. After that, He poured water in a basin and began to wash His disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was around Him. Jesus got intimately involved. "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master . . . Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them" (John 13:1-17). We are not the church of Christ until we take on the manner of Christ - that of being servants. Of all of the identifying marks of being the Lord's church that we must be - and beware taking false pride in them - no mark will distinguish us to a sin sick and suffering society as clearly as a love that wears servanthood. That was Jesus' own legacy. "I am among you as one who serves" (Luke 22:27). He "made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant" (Philippians 2:7). Serving is the way to look like Him. "Where I am, my servant also will be" (John 12:26). Basic basin theology. As you dip your hands into the water basin of living, what are you going to do with them when you draw them out? - Cliff |
