Remember in Your Prayers
The Way A fierce storm pounded the tiny ship loaded with precious supplies for the new settlement. Strong winds and huge waves threatened to send the ship with its cargo and crew to the bottom of the sea. This not only meant disaster for those aboard but also for the village as well. Winter was setting in and this was the last ship that could arrive before winter winds made it impossible cross the reef into the village harbor. The Captain knew he had but one chance to make the harbor under these conditions and that was through a small narrow passageway in the reef. It was the only hope for the ship’s crew and the villagers. Many a ship met disaster trying to navigate the way because captains and crews failed to follow the signs of the sea and sound of the waves, which would direct them safely to the harbor. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the light no man comes to the Father but by me.” Early Christians, as well as their enemies, knew what the expression “The Way” meant. Saul, when he was persecuting the Church, looked for people of “The Way”. The silversmiths in Ephesus became upset and a riot took place because the people of “The Way” were affecting their business. Aquilla and Priscilla took Apollos aside and showed him “The Way” more perfectly. The word translated “way” means pathway or journey. Early Christians lived everyday differently than their Jewish or Gentile friends. They lived so much differently that they were scorned, turned against and even killed. No matter what the religious world believes today, Jesus is still the only way to Heaven. One must be in Christ and Christ must be in him in order to have salvation. Most of the religious world today simply states “Just accept Jesus as your personal savior”, say a prayer that they have made up stating that you acknowledge him as your personal savior and then find a church that you like. They do not mention anything about being in Christ, in “The Way” or even changing life styles. So, how does one get into Christ? Check out Galatians 3. How does one get in “the Way? Check out Romans 6. Can others tell that you walk a different path buy your life style? The ship’s captain had to do something against his instinct; his will and own desires in order to make it through the narrow way to the safety of the harbor. “The Way” is hard and seems impossible to walk at times but is the only way to the heaven of rest that Jesus is preparing for us. People say you cannot work your way to Heaven and while that’s correct you can walk there so long as you are on the path lighted by Christ. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the light and no one comes to the Father except through me.” Lonnie McDonald
