Small Groups Guidelines

In three recent articles we have looked at small groups historically.  In Part 1 we reviewed the beginnings of the church when the people met in homes.  It is the natural setting for Family, which the church is to be.  Part 2 quoted an early opponent of the church disgusted with the success it was having meeting in homes and we listed house churches in the New Testament.  Part 3 went further into the place of the household and relationships in scripture to see how God uses them as building blocks of salvation.

The Small Groups Committee, commissioned by the Elders and Worship Committee, has done a lot of legwork for more than a year.  We share with you here the guidelines we wrote for ourselves in the planning and ongoing of a small groups ministry.  These are the result of our study, interviews with successful ministries, prayer, and our best hopes for Northridge.

What We Want To Do

Provide Northridge members with an opportunity to realize a life fully committed to Christ and a dynamic Christian community consistent with New Testament example

Where We Want To Go

Create a community that empowers members to develop and maintain intimate

relationships with God and one another

Produce an exciting Christian L-I-F-E that ensures:

L - Loving and supporting one another

I - Involvement in one another's lives through small group participation

F - Fellowshipping and encouraging one another in a closer walk with God

E - Evangelizing others by sharing what God has done for us

What We Want To Accomplish

Promote individual spiritual growth through life changing, relevant discussions

based on the Word of God

Develop a caring community of people-building and mutual accountability

Engage more persons in more active use of their gifts

Prepare persons for Christian leadership roles of all kinds (in the home, church,

           community, school, teams . .)

Create a natural atmosphere for the evangelism of friends

How We're Going To Do It

Develop a small groups process that will:

            Be Biblically based

Allow for the maximum participation of Northridge members

Accommodate the various ages, interests, and family situation of members

            Fit the personality of Northridge
