One Another

Clear Biblical doctrine and stances are a must, but the world does not care much what we teach.  People in the world want to know if it works.  When they find a people with fulfilled, loving, hopeful lives, then they will listen to the teachings those people stand upon.  But ‘friendly’ churches have the same problem as ‘unfriendly’ churches or uptight, stuffy churches – how do new people or those not as involved find their way into existing tight social structures?

The “One Another” passages in the N.T. (nearly 60 of them outside the Gospels) form a substantial picture of what the apostles taught about the ‘look and feel’ of the church.  We can no more afford to neglect these teachings than we could throw out baptism or the Lord’s Supper passages.  As a matter of fact, both of these doctrines are described as one another – koinonia – sharing teachings (1 Cor 12:12-14,  11:17-22,29-34).  If we don’t understand them that way, we don’t know what we’re doing.

The apostles’ picture of the church is one of a people – a Family – living righteously for and with one another, bound together in right teachings.  The pages of a book stacked unattached would be blown apart by any breeze that came along.  But when the pages are bound together in a protective cover (like N.T. teachings) then they are held together.  But the cover isn’t the story.  The pages – the people – contain the story.  When the world finds the people of wonderfully storied lives, they more willingly place themselves between the binding covers.

Admonish one another – Rom 15:14

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love – Rom 12:10

Honor one another above yourselves – Rom 12:10

Be of the same mind with one another – Rom 15:5

Accept one another just as Christ accepted you – Rom 15:7

Serve one another in Christ – Gal 5:13

            Bear one another’s burdens – Gal 6:2

Submit to one another – Eph 5:21

Bearing with one another in love – Eph 4:2

Confess your sins to one another – James 5:16

Encourage one another, build each other up – 1 Thess 5:11

Are you aware of a group of people who do these things who do not KNOW one another?!  Did you know that most Christians would say that even they experience very little of these things?!  Decide to SHARE – be in a group to grow “one-another-ness” doctrines in you and around you.
